Who We Are

The Association of Agricultural Technologists of Nigeria (AATON) was conceived to bring together agricultural technologists from research sectors, related agencies, and institutions under one professional umbrella. It was officially inaugurated on December 18, 2001, at the National Horticultural Research (NIHORT) in Ibadan. Our mission is to command the deserved respect and dignity for agricultural technologists and contribute significantly to the advancement of agriculture in Nigeria.

  • Unification: To bring together all agricultural technologists in Nigeria under one umbrella.

  • Promotion: To promote and advocate for the interests of agricultural technologists in the country.

  • Advisory Role: To serve as an advisory body to the government on agricultural policies and related issues.

  • Collaboration: To liaise with other agricultural bodies for the advancement of agriculture in Nigeria.

  • Continuous Learning: To organize seminars, workshops, and conferences for knowledge exchange and professional development.

Our History

HISTORY OF ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGISTS OF NIGERIA (AATON)

The idea of the formation of a body to comprise all agricultural technologists in the agricultural research sectors, related agencies and institutions was first conceived in Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) earlier before its eventual national inauguration. The reason for this giant stride was to be able to have a unifying body under one professional umbrella capable of commanding the deserved professional and career respects and dignity.

The association was later in December 18, 2001 inaugurated officially at the National Horticultural Research (NIHORT), Ibadan with the name National Association of Agricultural Technologist (NAAT). A protem executive members was constituted to pilot the affairs of the Association. Mr. S.O. Odeley (CRIN) as the President, Mr. F.F. Bada (NIHORT) as the vice president and Mr. O. Atobatele (NIHORT) as the General Secretary. Others included Mr. M.K. Azeez (CRIN) as the Assistant Secretary, Mrs. M.S. Akani (NIHORT) as the financial secretary, Mrs. J.O. Agge (CRIN) as the Treasurer and Mr. J.O. Okojie (CRIN) as the P.R.O.

The name of the association was later considered for a change from National Association of Agricultural Technologist (NAAT) to Association of Agricultural Technologists of Nigeria (AATON) upon its registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The motto of the association is “Sustaining agriculture through technology” with the following aims and objectives:

To bring all interested agricultural technologist in the country under one umbrella.

To function as a body uniting and promoting the course of agricultural technologist in the country.

To serve as an advisory body to the government on agricultural policies and related issues in the country.

To liase with other agricultural bodies on the advancement of agriculture.

To organize a forum for cooperation and exchange of ideas and information through seminars, training, workshops and conferences.

Since the inception of the association, Agricultural Research Institutes like CRIN, IAR&T, FRIN, FEDCOFOR, NCRI, NIHORT have been active.

Aims and Objectives of the Association

The aims and objectives of the Association shall be to:

a) Bring all interested agricultural technologists in Nigeria together under an umbrella.

b) Function as a body uniting and promoting the course of agricultural technology in Nigeria.

c) Give professional advice and/or consultation with reference to public and government institutions in all matters pertaining to the profession.

d) Collaborate with other bodies in the agricultural sector towards the advancement of agriculture in Nigeria.

e) Organize forum for cooperation and exchange of ideas and information through seminars, trainings, workshops, on-farm demonstrations, and conferences.
